Approximately 50 WSU students, school teachers, school librarians, and children's librarians from public libraries (including some retirees from the latter three) met on Saturday, February 18th, in the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library's Group Study Room, for the 9th Annual Picture Book Extravaganza! The event was co-sponsored by Greene County Public Library, WSU University Libraries, and the Charles & Renate Frydman Educational Resource Center. Our thanks go to the Wright State University Bookstore, who sold books for us.

Breakout Session: Some Writer!: Using Melissa Sweet's Non-Fiction Books in Your Classroom.

A display of non-fiction books by Melissa
Everyone made a collage focused on a quote by E.B. white, in a style similar to artwork found in Melissa Sweet's book, Some Writer!: The Story of E.B. White. A New York Times Bestseller and a 2017 ALSC Notable Children's Book, Some Writer! breaks boundaries of informational text as Sweet mixes White's personal letters, photos, and family ephemera with her own artwork to tell the story of this American literary icon. This would be perfect to use in concert with an author study of White and his novels for children, Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and Trumpet of the Swan.
