The 3rd WSU Mock Newbery was held on January 14, 2017, at the Charles & Renate Frydman Educational Resource Center at Wright State University. The twelve participants hailed from school libraries, school teachers, and university curriculum centers and read, made notes about and discussed the 10 books on our list, using CCBC Book Discussion Guidelines. Each book on the list had been vetted and met the criteria for consideration for the Newbery Medal Voting was conducted using the weighted vote method used by ALSC Book Award Committees. Here are the titles the group discussed:




This year's winner was Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk, published by Dutton Children's Press / Penguin Random House

Three Honor Books were named.

The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill, published by Algonquin Young Readers / Workman Publishing

Ghost (Track series, book 1) by Jason Reynolds, published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers / Simon & Schuster

Hour of the Bees by Lindsay Eagar, published by Candlewick Press
