2016 WSU Mock Newbery

The 2nd WSU Mock Newbery was held on January 23, 2016, at the Charles & Renate Frydman Educational Resource Center at Wright State University. Eighteen participants from public libraries, school libraries, teachers, juvenile detention center, and retirees read, prepared and discussed the 10 books on our list, plus this year's Newbery winner, Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena, using CCBC Book Discussion Guidelines. Each book on the list had been vetted and met the criteria for consideration for the Newbery Medal Here is the booklist:


This year's mock winner was: The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, published by Dial/Penguin.

Three Honor Books were named:
The Boys Who Challenged Hitler: Knud Pedersen and the Churchill Club by Philliip Hoose, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan, published by Scholastic.
