Approximately 50 teachers, school librarians and children's librarians from public libraries met on Saturday, March 95h, in the Group Study Room at WSU's Dunbar Library for the 5th Annual Picture Book Extravaganza! The event was co-sponsored by Greene County Public Library, WSU University Libraries and the Charles & Renate Frydman Educational Resource Center. Our thanks go to the Wright State University Bookstore, who sold books for us.

WSU Bookstore was on hand with books galore!

The favorite picture book selected by the group was The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce, published by Atheneum/Simon & Schuster. (It was a very tight vote, from a long list of nominees from the floor.)

The 2014 Picture Book Extravaganza! is tenatively scheduled for late February, 2014.

We are posting our lists so you can recreate your own picture book read-in-type event, or for your own use to keep current on this year's picture books:

The optional breakout session this year, "Bring the Power of One to your Young Readers", featured author/illustrator Kathryn Otoshi, proved to be a big hit. In the morning session, she shared tips on using her companion books One and Zero to build self-esteeem and combat bullies. Additionally, she provided handouts to the group with more activities for the books. In the afternoon, she discussed "Picture Books That Count".
